The CIF seeks to engage political parties, opinion-makers, decision-makers, think-tanks, media and other groups in promoting the objectives of the CIF.
- The foundation will commission studies, surveys and reports that will help in realizing its objectives and mandate.
- A Web site, newsletters and group communication.
- Networking with other groups of complimentary interests.
- Support the advancement of Indo-Canadians in the political and public policy domain.
CIF has engaged senior officials from Canada and India in discussions on our priority as follow:
- Meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada, the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, and participation in a Round Table Conference with the Honorable Prime Minister
- Discussions with the Hon. David Emerson, Canada's Minister of International Trade including participation in a Round Table Conference with the Minister
- Met and discussed the need for stronger bi-lateral relations with India's Minister of Commerce,the Hon. Minister Kamal Nath
- Hosted a private reception with Hon. Michael Ignatieff, MP and Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition
- Met and discussed with Tarun Das, Confederation of Indian Industry, the need for a more robust trade and investment bridge between Canada and India by establishing formal relations between CM and counterpart agencies in Canada
- Hosted a private reception with Hon.Stephane Dion, M.P. and Leader of the Offcial Opposition which included discussions on the need for civil nuclear engagement, immigration, national security and economic relations between Canada and India
- Met with and hosted a private dinner for Shri Ravi Vayalar, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs
- Hosted a private dinner with Hon. James Flaherty, MinisterofFinancewhere he presented his policy priorities
- Hosted a breakfast on Parliament Hill with High Commissioner R.LNarayan and introduced him to The Canada India interparlimentary association.
- Attended the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in India
- Hosted a meeting with Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Minister of Small Business and Tourism
- Met with Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs
- "Global India Lecture Series" : CIF co-sponsored a four part lecture series with the Canadian Institute for International Affairs, called "Global India". The lectures were held in four cities (Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver) in October and November 2007. Guest speakers were Alan Rosling, Executive Director of Tata Sons, and C. Raja Mohan, Strategic Affairs Editor of the Indian Express, presented India's emergence as an economic and political success story to Canadian academics, journalists, politicians and the general public.
- CIF actively supports the establishment of the Canada-India Inter-Parliamentary Association. Currently 76 Members of Parliament and Senators have joined the Association (an increase of 33 since June 2007 with CIF's support) as we seek to improve political and diplomatic relations between Canada and India.
- Instituted the CIF Chanchlani Global Indian Award. This award will be presented annually to an outstanding Indian who has
demonstrated global leadership, vision, and personal excellence, which
has made all of us of Indian origin extremely proud of our heritage.
